Mission: Saving lives and forests.
Vision: Healthy Planet Healthy People
Goal: To bring clean cooking to 1 Billion people by 2025.
BURN was founded to revolutionize clean cooking in Africa while protecting forests and improving livelihoods. The journey began in 1990 when the CEO & Founder - Peter Scott, traveling through Zaire (now DRC), witnessed widespread deforestation caused by charcoal use. Determined to create solutions, he dedicated his career to designing fuel efficient stoves. After years of consulting across Central America and Africa, Scott established BURN in 2010 on Vashon Island, Washington. In 2014, BURN opened its first full scale manufacturing facility in Kenya—the only vertically integrated modern cookstove factory in sub–Saharan Africa. Powered by solar energy, the facility produces up to 400,000 stoves monthly and employs more than 2,500 people, half of them women. Over the past decade, BURN has grown into a global leader in clean cooking, earning recognition from TIME100, Fast Company, and Ashden Awards. To date, BURN has distributed over 6.6 million biomass, LPG, and electric cooking appliances across 12 African countries, including its award-winning, IoT-enabled ECOA Induction Cooker. These stoves reduce fuel use by up to 80%, cut household emissions, and lower exposure to deadly indoor air pollution. To date, BURN’s products have improved the lives of over 33 million people, saved 39.4 million tons of wood and 67.8M tons of CO₂ reduced.
